Research
Dr. Mortensen-Welch provides the following rehabilitative services, surgeries, and procedures at 37 Research Way or at Stony Brook Medicine:
  • Examining of the vibration of vocal cords with a special scope called Videostroboscope.
  • Objective testing of the acoustic and aerodynamics of the speaking and singing voice with measures of: acoustic parameters, respiratory and phonatory airflow and electroglottography.
  • Laryngeal electromyography: Tests of electric signals of muscle function of the larynx.
  • Minimally invasive KTP laser treatment of polyps, scars and other benign and pre-malignant growths of the vocal fold.
  • Injection of botulinum toxin into the muscle of the throat and larynx for the treatment of adductor and abductor spasmodic dysphonia
  • Diagnosis and management of acid reflux laryngitis
  • Laryngeal reconstruction after radiation, trauma and cancer surgery for restoration of voice and airway.
  • Conservation surgery and laser surgery for cancer of the larynx
