Our multidisciplinary Breast Care Service is the first of its kind in Suffolk County. It offers a full range of care from initial evaluation and prompt diagnosis to complex treatment regimens. This service provides early detection and diagnosis; comprehensive management of breast cancer and benign breast disease; access to national research programs; reconstructive and plastic surgery; and patient education.
At Stony Brook's Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center located in the Stony Brook University Cancer Center, state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, and ultrasound equipment are used for routine screening and for early detection of breast cancer. The most modern techniques of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation oncology are available, as well as rehabilitative and support services, including support groups, designed to assist women who have had treatment for primary cancer of the breast. Reflecting our commitment to advancing the surgical treatment of breast cancer, we were the first on Long Island to offer the minimally invasive procedure called sentinel node biopsy.
