Occupational, Enviromental and Clinical Preventive Medicine

Occupational, Enviromental and Clinical Preventive Medicine

The Division of Occupational, Environmental and Clinical Preventive Medicine implements the Department of Preventive Medicine's clinical prevention programs and is actively involved in teaching, training and research.  The clinical programs address the health needs of Long Island workers, unions, industry, business, health care providers, community groups, individuals and families. Our clinical programs include:

  • The Occupational and Environmental Medicine Program focuses attention on workers engaged in high risk occupations, the underserved and those populations living in close proximity to environmentally hazardous areas. Occupational and Environmental Medicine is a rapidly growing medical field that seeks to study how occupation and environment affects one's health with an emphasis on prevention.
  • The Wellness/Chronic Illness Program is dedicated to providing individual consultations that exemplify integrative, comprehensive and patient-centered medicine across the life cycle.  The program includes state of the art conventional family medicine, combined with mind/body, botanical, and nutritional medicine to create a whole person approach to health and illness.
  • The Travel Medicine Program offers practical, up to date, and expert information to minimize health risks from international travel.  Our senior infectious disease specialist is available for medical consultation both pre and post travel.
  • The Adult Vaccination Program provides consultations and vaccinations for primary illness prevention. Our physicians offer comprehensive health information based on the most current recommendations from authoritative sources, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for adult immunizations (e.g. shingles, tetanus, pneumonia, hepatitis A and B).
Service Provides

The Division has an interdisciplinary group of health care providers: physicians and a nurse practitioner.  There are three full-time and two part-time physicians board certified in Family Medicine, Infectious Disease, Preventive Medicine and Occupational and Environmental Medicine.  The support staff consists of 1 full time Provision Of Services registered nurse, two patient care technicians , several clerical support staff and a practice manager.

Metting The Needs Of Patients/Customers

Preventive Medicine’s patient/customer needs are determined by patient visits and by working with employers to assess their employees’ exposures and designing customized protocols.  Educational materials are provided to our occupational and travel medicine clients/patients.  The patients in the Wellness/Chronic Illness Program are provided with access to our patient resource website as well as materials provided to them during their visits. Our support staff is cross trained in order to ensure adequate staffing during vacations and unforeseen circumstances.
