Required Qualifications
  • Associates and /or equivalent experience in Health Information Management
  • Extensive knowledge of department processes.
  • Implements new initiatives relating to data collection, performance and regulatory requirements.
  • Requires 5 years’ experience in the related area as an individual contributor.
  • 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required
  • Requires Certified Coder Certification from AAPC, or AHIMA or AHMI certification.
  • Must hold a current AHIMA or AAPC Certified Coder Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in surgical pathology coding and billing
  • Experience in monitoring outcome measures preferred.

  • Description
  • Abstracts clinical information from a variety of medical records, charts and documents.
  • Assigns appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 codes to patient records according to established procedures.
  • Works with coding databases and confirms DRG assignments.
  • Inputs and maintains data on procedures required for state or other reporting
  • Manages and oversees the billing and coding function within a healthcare organization.
  • Responsible for the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all billing and coding information for unit.
  • Ensures all the billing and coding practices comply with applicable JCAHO
