EMERGING THERAPIES, PAIN MANAGEMENT AND DEPRESSION: FEATURED TOPICS AT SBUMC MS PATIENT EDUCATION SERIES

The Department of Neurology and the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Comprehensive Care Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center will hold a free eduational series this spring geared toward MS patients and their families. The series runs each Thursday evening, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, from March 25 to April 15. Featured speakers will be physicians, nurses and other specialists from the MS Comprehensive Care Center at SBUMC.

Each weekly program includes a theme/topic, a one hour presentation, an open dialogue on the topic and related issues, and a question and answer session. Light refreshments will also be served during the program.

On March 25, Drs. Patricia Coyle and Lauren Krupp, neurologists specializing in the treatment of MS, will discuss "Changing The Future: Emerging Therapies." They will detail the landscape of MS therapies and approaches to care, particularly in light of the development of new oral medications.

The other weekly topics include: "Making It Work – Spasticity," on April 1, with Warren Spinner, M.D., Candi Rienzie, D.P.T., and Patricia Melville, N.P.; "Pain Management," April 8, with Carol Agin, M.D.; and "Depression and MS," April 15, with Kathleen Shurpin, Ph.D., R.N.

Each Thursday program will be held at the Stony Brook Neurology Outpatient Offices at 179 Belle Mead Road in Setauket, N.Y.

The MS Comprehensive Care Center at Stony Brook University Medical Center is dedicated to the care and treatment of adult individuals and children with MS. The team of specialists includes neurologists, nurses, and physical therapists who specialize in MS.
