Urologic Oncologist Joins Stony Brook

The appointment of Alan M. Nieder, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Urology, adds to a growing list of oncologists who have joined Stony Brook University Hospital during the past two years. Dr Nieder is a urologic oncologist whose primary interest is in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of bladder cancer, including research on smoking cessation as a way to reduce the incidence of bladder cancer. Dr Nieder will collaborate with colleagues in Urology, Preventive Medicine, and the Long Island Cancer Center on this issue. Dr Nieder is a member of the Society of International Urology’s Bladder Cancer Guidelines Consensus Panel, which is charged with developing bladder cancer treatment protocols. In addition to his clinical work and research on bladder cancer, Dr Nieder will concentrate on prevention and treatment of prostate and kidney cancers. He joined Stony Brook University Hospital during fall 2004, coming from Jackson Memorial Hospital at the University of Miami in Florida where he was a Fellow in Urologic Oncology.
