Stony Brook Radiation Oncology is the clinical practice of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine and Stony Brook University Medical Center. Clinical Services

Overview
The practice works to carry out the missions of the department which are:

To use state-of-the-art methods to treat patients in a respectful, compassionate and effective manner; to educate healthcare professionals in the practice of radiation oncology; to pursue knowledge about the practice and science of radiation oncology and to develop innovative approaches in its application; and to serve as a regional resource for education about radiation oncology and the diseases it treats. In accomplishing these missions, the department supports Stony Brook University Medical Center's strategic objective to become the regional destination institution for cancer services in Suffolk County.

Clinical services provided are evaluation and management services for cancer patients and related radiotherapy and supportive procedures. The radiotherapy procedures available include:

Conventional external beam radiotherapy with photons and electrons
Three dimensional conformal radiotherapy
Intensity modulated radiotherapy
Image guided radiotherapy
Cranial and spinal stereotactic radiosurgery
Cranial and extracranial stereotactic radiotherapy
High dose rate brachytherapy
Low dose rate brachytherapy including permanent prostate implants
Oral and intravenous radionuclide therapy
Radio-immunoglobulin therapy
Total body radiotherapy in preparation for allogeneic transplants
Amifostine radioprotection
