MD Announcements - View: Kenneth R. Shroyer, MD, PhD

The Department of Pathology is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kenneth R. Shroyer as the Marvin Kuschner Professor and Chair of Pathology effective November 2007.  Dr. Shroyer earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology and M.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  Dr. Shroyer is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (1991), with subspecialty certification in Cytopathology (1995).  He was recruited from the University of Colorado where he served as the Director of Cytopathology, the Director of Surgical Pathology, and the Vice Chair for Anatomic Pathology. Dr. Shroyer has authored over 100 research manuscripts related to the discovery and validation of cancer biomarkers in tumors of the female genital tract, the breast, and other anatomic sites. He is also a national authority on the role of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection in cervical cancer. Dr. Shroyer is a member of the Editorial Board of Human Pathology, an Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Virology, and is a member of major study sections for the National Cancer Institute. His research group includes the department's Laboratory for Translational Research and components of the Stony Brook University Tissue Bank.

Dr. Shroyer is available for consultation in general surgical pathology and cytopathology, with subspecialty expertise in cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancer.  He is also available to perform fine needle aspiration biopsies with immediate interpretation of palpable mass lesions of the breast, lesions of the head and neck (including thyroid), lymph nodes, and most other palpable mass lesions.
